Korean Folk Art Festival

Through this festival, we actively discover, preserve, and transmit Korean folk art that connects generations.

Since its inception in 1958, the Korean Folk Art Festival has been held annually over a three-day period in October, rotating among metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide. For over six decades, it has served as a national platform where representative folk arts from 17 provinces and five northern regions of Korea come together in celebration and competition.
In 1994, a youth division was introduced to foster the transmission of the Korean spirit and cultural heritage to younger generations who may have limited exposure to traditional culture in modern society.
Through these efforts, the festival has significantly contributed to the designation of 44 items as National Intangible Cultural Heritage and 135 items as Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage. Notably, 12 of these have been inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
